I started surfing when I was 8 years old. I grew up on the Mornington Peninsula at small place called Bittern it was very close to the surf breaks of Western Port Bay and Gunnamatta.

I was lucky to have some high quality beach breaks close to home that always had swell. I started shaping when I finished my plumbing apprenticeship in 1995. Garry Taylor who was Trigger Brothers shaper at the time decided to give it away and Phil and Paul asked me if I wanted to have a go, it sounded better than digging holes!!!

Kenny Reimers influenced me the most to start shaping. I learnt the art of hand shaping under Paul Trigger then Kenny introduced me to profile machines, which was great. This finally pushed me towards using cad machines for shaping. I now have 2 shaping machines at my factory which Kenny actually made. He also taught me how to look for certain things that appear on boards and then work out why these certain things made boards surf differently. I love being able to share this with other people and make it as pleasing as I find it on a wave.

My goals for shaping have always been the same.

“To make boards for myself that I like. However, this has grown from what I like’ to include what others like”.

I enjoy getting feedback from my friends and customers after they have ridden some of my board designs around Australia.

Individually, I have won numerous state titles and been selected in the Australian team where some of my favourite surfing memories are! But now my greatest achievement are with my boards knowing the vast majority of people who ride them are satisfied with what they ride, and that they are able to communicate what they want out of their surfboards. For me to be able to make the changes that they can actually feel when they surf is really rewarding.
